The CALO Woodland Scheme
The CALO Woodland Scheme allows organisations and individuals, by sponsoring tree planting, to contribute effectively to atmospheric carbon lock-up
to counteract climate change.
CALO Woodland is simply a mechanism by which those wishing to sponsor trees can do so with assurity that for every tree sponsored, one will be
planted and grown for at least 50 years.
Trees will be planted on private land – principally farms. The landowner undertakes to host the trees for at least 50 years. In return for this committment, they may use the woodland as a
windbreak, game-cover, etc. and at the end of the agreed period will the benefit of a mature woodland which they may choose to retain or crop as timber for sequestration.
Trees will be planted as 2 year old saplings at a spacing of 3 x 3 metre to form woodlands with 50 trees or more.
Native species indigenous to the local landscape will be selected. Any tree that dies within the first two years will be replaced.
Woodlands will be carefully monitored and information and progress reports will be available on-line to those wishing to follow the growth of the woodlands. Woodland will not routinely be open to
public access though arrangements may be made for sponsors wherever appropriate.
Full details of the Scheme will be published shortly. Anyone interested in either sponsoring trees or hosting woodland may contact us on
